Ingredients in these goat cheese puff pastry bites
A handful of simple ingredients give these perfectly flaky puff pastry bites their sweet, tangy flavor. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Flour: you’ll need a little all-purpose flour for dusting your counter and rolling pin before rolling out the puff pastry.
- Puff pastry: the base of these bites is a sheet of puff pastry! You can find them in the frozen section of the grocery store.
- Fig jam: a little dollop of fig jam in the center of the bites adds a lovely sweetness.
- Goat cheese: pair the sweet fig jam with tangy goat cheese crumbles.
- Nuts: I like to add a little crunch by sprinkling chopped walnuts or pecans.
- Egg: you’ll need to create an egg wash by whisking an egg, then brushing it onto the edges of each puff pastry bite. This will give it that nice golden crust.
- To garnish: top each baked puff pastry bite with a little chopped rosemary and flaky sea salt, if you’d like!

Choose your fillings
These puff pastry bites are easy to customize with different fillings. Here’s what I can recommend:
- For the cheese: not a fan of goat cheese? Add crumbled feta cheese instead! Just skip the flaky sea salt on top because feta is naturally salty.
- For the fig jam: feel free to get creative here — a berry jam, apricot, cherry, or fancy red pepper jelly would be delicious. You could also lean into Thanksgiving and use leftover cranberry sauce!
- For the nuts: as I mentioned, I love chopped walnuts and pecans, but you can keep them nut-free by simply omitting the nuts.

Goat cheese puff pastry bites in 5 steps
- Prep the puff pastry. Dust your counter and rolling pin with flour, then roll out the thawed puff pastry and slice it into 24 equal-sized squares.
- Prep your pan. Place each square into a mini muffin tin sprayed with cooking spray, then use your fingers to press the puff pastry into the sides of the tin to make a cup. Prick the bottoms with a fork (so that the puff pastry doesn’t puff up too much).
- Fill, brush & bake. Spoon and sprinkle the jam, goat cheese, and nuts into each bite, brush the edges with the egg wash, and bake them up until golden.
- Garnish & serve. Top each with a little rosemary and flaky salt, let them cool, then remove with a fork and serve them up!

Make them ahead of time
If you like to prep ahead, you can add the puff pastry to your mini muffin pan, add the fillings and nuts, and then cover the pan with foil and refrigerate for 24 hours (or freeze for up to 1 week!) before continuing with the egg wash and baking.

Storing tips
Store and leftover puff pastry bites in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. You can reheat them in the oven at 350 degrees F for about 5 minutes or until warmed through (just be sure not to overbake).

Fig & Goat Cheese Puff Pastry Bites

The cutest fig and goat cheese puff pastry bites topped with crunchy nuts, fresh herbs, and flaky sea salt. These easy puff pastry bites come together in just over 30 minutes for a delicious appetizer that can serve a whole party! Prep them ahead and save time during the busy holiday season.
Ingredients
- All purpose flour for dusting
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed in fridge overnight
- ½ cup fig jam
- 4 oz. log goat cheese
- ½ cup raw walnuts or pecans, chopped
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh rosemary leaves
- Flaky sea salt for topping
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 400ºF. Spray a mini muffin tin generously with cooking spray.
-
Prepare the puff pastry: Dust your countertop and a rolling pin with flour. Place the puff pastry sheet on the cutting board and roll it into an approximate 10-inch x 15-inch rectangle. Use a large knife to cut the puff pastry into 24 (2.5-inch) squares (4 columns by 6 rows). Place each square into the mini muffin tin, and use your fingers to press the pastry into the sides of the tin to create a cup. Use a fork to prick the bottom of each cup 2 times; this will help prevent the cup from puffing up too much!
-
Fill the puff pastry bites: Dollop about ½ to ¾ teaspoon of fig jam into each puff pastry cup. Add a few crumbles of goat cheese and about 1 teaspoon of chopped walnuts to each cup.
-
Brush with egg wash: In a small bowl, mix together the egg with a fork and use a pastry brush to brush on the edges of the puff pastry crust. This will help to create a nice golden brown crust when baked.
-
Bake the bites: Bake for 12-14 minutes until the puff pastry is golden brown and the cheese is nice and melty.
-
Finish and serve: Remove the pan from the oven and sprinkle a tiny bit of the finely chopped rosemary and a pinch of flaky sea salt onto each bite. Let cool for 5 minutes, then use a fork to remove each bite from the muffin tin. Makes 24 bites. Enjoy!
Recipe Notes
If you don’t like goat cheese, crumbled feta would be perfect in here; just skip the flaky sea salt on top!
